Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly

The first butterfly of the season was a beautiful Tiger Swallowtail.
Butterfly Beware
With the dragonfly army on full patrol and the birds in insect eating overdrive, I thought this tiger swallowtail was in for a short lifespan. The dragonflies left it alone, and the birds didn’t seem to be interested either. They must have considered it to be out of their league. I grabbed the camera and the butterfly kindly posed for a number of pictures around the property, fluttering from one dandelion to another.
The photo session lasted a good ten minutes before the model of the day drifted off towards the forest. Evidently, it was on a tight schedule.
